Octocon 2008
2008-09-24 20:20:35 Hi there, please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Cat McGrath, I'm the new co-chair of Octocon, the National Irish Science Fiction Convention.

This is a quick newsletter with some information about this year's Octocon, as an attendee to the convention in previous years, I hope you find this useful.

This years convention will be on the 18th and 19th of October, and we have taken the bold step of moving the Con back into Dublin City Centre. I have negotiated to hold the Convention at the Royal Dublin Hotel on O'Connell street. This gives us ample space and a great location which is readily accessible to all.

Our guest of Honour for 2008 is Ken MacLeod, and we also have the following guests attending:
Michael Carroll,
Rob Curley,
Derek Gunn,
Harry Harrison,
C.E. Murphy,
Peadar Ó Guilín,
Sarah Rees Brennan and
John Vaughan.

We will be announcing some more guests shortly.

Our membership rates are very keen, we really want to welcome as many people back to Octocon as possible. Our membership rates will remain at this level until October 12, but I hope you'll consider joining as soon as you can on our website www.octocon.com.

Myself and the committee are relative new comers to the conrunning game, and while we have many new ideas for the convention, we want to also embody the goodwill and spirit that the legacy of Octocon possesses.

Octocon will feature as part of the programming for the Children's Book Festival 2008, and with this in mind one of our multiple streams of programming on the Saturday will be designed to appeal to younger science fiction fans as well as our adult members.

We will, of course, welcome any of your ideas for new participants or programme items, etc.

I hope to see many of you in October,
Cat.
